A caring employer will always ensure that his staff members are well-compensated and motivated to be the best they can be. Happy employees equal quality output. Go the extra mile by sharing tips for success with your staff so they can continue to improve and set higher goals for themselves. Here are ways you can coach them:
• Set up a Team-Building Day for them. Choose a day, preferably a Friday, when everyone’s workload allows them to take the day off and get together for a fun and educational company experience. The weekend after the activity will also allow them to rest and reflect on what they learned on that day.
• Incorporate activities into that day which will allow everyone to honestly assess themselves as individuals and as a team. Ask them if they have any personal or professional goals they would like to achieve.
• Present a slideshow of famous and wealthy achievers quoting their tips for success. Encourage your staff to give their opinions on those personalities and which of those tips are applicable to them.
• Share your own story to add a personal touch to the presentation – like how you started your business, how you worked your way up, and the challenges you encountered. Hearing their own boss relate to everyday struggles and succeed in the end will inspire them to want to develop the same work ethic and values you have. And that’s exactly what you would want to instill in them.
• Include suggestions on how to deal with stumbling blocks when giving out tips for success. Some people have the notion that hard work alone will guarantee a smooth journey. On the contrary, the road to success is paved with challenges. Let them know that you did not get to where you are now by simply breezing through life. Give examples of what you did to solve your biggest challenges. This will show them that while these challenges seemed insurmountable, this did not stop you from persevering.
• Teach them the SWOT analysis. SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. This strategic planning method will help them assess their goals and the ways they can attain them, including what to expect as they work towards them. There are templates available online which you can print out and hand out to your employees.
• Ask them to note down their SWOTs as honestly as they can, and read them aloud during the sharing session when others can give their opinions and advice applicable to the peer’s goals. It will be a great opportunity to hear more tips for success from people who may have excellent ideas. Who knows, the next brilliant innovator might be among your own staff!
